State of the Farm

We have gone from rags to riches. We had just given thanks for our first heavy rain month in 3 years - 9.2 inches in September - when the October deluge appeared. 4.9 inches in a 24 hour period. We haven’t seen the farm in such good shape in 3 years. Five weeks ago, we had no grass except in our irrigated sections. We are now knee deep everywhere and all 3 ponds (“tanks” in Texas lingo) are full to the brim. We are now at flash flood stage if we get another inch or two of rain. Who would have thought it as recently as August? I find myself humming the old song, “Every Time It Rains, It Rains, Pennies From Heaven.” Must have been written by a farmer.

We’re trying to stay calm. No overreaction. Doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods. But it does bring grass. And thanks. And hope for the future.
